Jubilee Festival of Arts Unveils 2020 Festival Poster Artwork by Local Artist Ricky Trione

DAPHNE, Ala. – The Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce is proud to unveil the featured poster art for the 32nd Annual Jubilee Festival of Arts Thursday, July 2nd live on Facebook from the American Sports Art Museum & Archives.

The 2020 featured artist is well-known local artist, Ricky Trione who lost his eyesight in two separate accidents more than 20 years ago. 

Before losing his sight, he was well known as a detailed pen and ink artist.  Ricky never thought he would create art again, after becoming blind.  However, a close childhood friend, Vicky Nix Cook, convinced him that he could learn to create art by using textures. 

He learned to create art by feeling his way across a canvas. He works in a 3D style that includes thick texture paints and molding compounds.

“I really didn’t start doing Jubilee art until after I lost my sight. I started using my memory. I had so many memories of scenes of jubilees,” said Trione who grew up in Daphne. 

His greatest joy is getting to visit children of all ages in schools, colleges, art camps and special events.  Ricky offers hope and inspiration, while teaching special art lessons, showing that you can enjoy being creative and artistic, no matter what obstacles come your way. 

“I do a lot of crab art and shrimp, flounder, so I have created a painting that I think is sort of whimsical and fun and I think it’s really going to be something uplifting for the Jubilee Festival,” Trione said.
